The Causeway Coastal Route is a spectacular 80 mile drive that clings to the rugged shore of County Antrim. The landscape switches from windswept cliffs to pristine sandy beaches with local fishing ports nestled in-between. It is a journey not to be hurried, as the road twists over bridges and under arches, all the time offering views across the sea as far as Scotland. In addition short detours will take you to the nine Glens of Antrim. These still valleys are rich in flora & fauna, hiding well preserved historic buildings amongst the tumbling waterfalls.
Route highlights
The signature location for this area is Giant’s Causeway, and it is unique in many ways, but there is much more to see along the way. The historic Bushmills Distillery has been in operation for more than 400 years, whilst the beach at Portstewart welcomes cars on to the long stretch of sand.
The forest park at Glenariff offers a peaceful retreat, before visiting the preserved Cornish-style fishing port of Cushendun.
